My first impulse now is always to find something to love, something to be inspired by, something heroic, something recognizable as the gift and burden of the human condition, the pain and grace that’s there to find in every soul you meet. - Ron Kurtz

Nathalie R. Henaine, PsyD (she/they)

Identities: I hold multiple identities that inform the way I have lived and experienced the world. I am a queer, cis-bodied Latina woman who grew up in Chicago within a bicultural, bilingual household.

Education: I earned my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Adler University, where I completed my dissertation on how adults who play MMORPG video games socialize and interact with others.

I've worked as a therapist in various environments, such as college counseling, career counseling, community mental health, hospitals, and group practices. I am licensed in Illinois, and am a part of PSYPACT®, which allows me to meet with clients online in states that participate.

Approaches: In my therapy practice, I draw from a blend of Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, psychodynamic/attachment theory, and trauma-informed neuroscience. This approach to therapy focuses on understanding the different "parts" of ourselves, how our brain and body work together, and the importance of re-connecting with our bodies in healing.

I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is the most healing aspect of therapy. Painful and traumatic experiences can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and alone. My focus is to co-create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their feelings, learn to manage them, and experiment with new ways of being and to be present with them in their experience.

Our brains are designed to connect with others through our emotions, and to heal when we feel safe and supported. Because of this, I guide our sessions slowly and gently, taking into account your own unique ability to handle and process what comes up.

I acknowledge that the land on which we reside and work, in the 60618 area of Chicago, are the ancestral and stolen homelands of the Peoria, Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi), Myaamia, Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk), Kaskaskia, and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) nations. My gratitude to the Indigenous People who stewarded the lands, and my deepest respect to the Elders past, present, and future.
